Job Description
A Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining and optimizing computer networks within an organization. This includes both local area networks (LAN) and larger scale networks, such as wide area networks (WAN) and cloud-based network infrastructures. The Network Engineer works closely with other IT teams and stakeholders to ensure that the network operates reliably, securely and efficiently.
Responsibilities
A successful Network Engineer contributes to the stability, security and growth of the organization's network infrastructure.
- Propose and implement network architectures and technical security measures based on the needs of the organization.
- Configure and maintain network equipment, including routers, switches, firewalls and load balancers.
- Monitor network performance, detect outages and take proactive measures to maintain network integrity.
- Perform network testing and evaluation to improve overall performance and safety as well as suggest process and quality improvements.
- Identify and resolve network problems, such as connection failures, latency and bandwidth issues.
- Implement and maintain network security measures to ensure authorized access and prevent unauthorized access.
- Collaborate with other IT colleagues to ensure integration of network components with other systems and applications.
- Document network configurations, changes and problems according to internal guidelines.
- Contribute to capacity planning and network scalability to meet growing demands.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and networking best practices and apply this knowledge to the work.
- Working according to ISO standards 27001 and 9001.
Qualifications and requirements
- Detail-oriented, methodical, and systematic work, analytical and controlling.
- A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information technology, computer engineering, or a related field.
- Proven work experience as a Network Engineer or in a similar role.
- In-depth knowledge of network protocols, architectures, and topologies.
- Experience in configuring and managing network equipment from various vendors.
- Familiarity with network security practices and technologies.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to quickly identify and resolve network issues.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
- Certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) are a plus.
- Familiarity with cloud networks and software-defined networks (SDN) is considered a positive.
